What does horse rider insurance excess mean?
An excess is the part you pay towards a claim.
How does horse rider insurance excess work?
With our horse rider insurance policies, there are only three Standard Benefits where you need to pay an excess:
- Emergency Vet’s Fees & Euthanasia – Vet’s Fees
- Saddlery & Tack
- Public Liability (Standard)
For example, if a horse you are riding suffers an external, accidental, and visible injury that needs emergency veterinary treatment, we will deduct the fixed vet’s fees excess off the money we pay you.
There is no excess payable for claims under the following Standard Benefits:
- Emergency Vet’s Fees & Euthanasia – Euthanasia
- Emergency Vet’s Fees & Euthanasia – Disposal
- Theft or Straying
- Personal Accident
- Dental Treatment
- Private Tutoring
There is no excess payable for claims under the Optional Benefit:
- Riding Clothes
If you have a horse rider insurance policy with us, you can view your excess amounts within your Policy Schedule.
My child is under 18 years old; can they have a policy?

What is the maximum amount of cover for Theft and Straying?
If a horse in your care is stolen or strays, we will pay the price paid or market value (whichever is less) to the horse’s owner, and an amount to reimburse you for advertising the theft and/or payment of a reward which leads directly to the horse’s recovery.

If a horse you are riding has an accident and suffers an external accidental visible injury, we cover:
