If you have a wedding insurance policy with us, you can view your excess amounts within your Policy Schedule.

Who is able to purchase the wedding insurance policy?
Our wedding insurance policies can be taken out by anyone as long as the policyholder, and at least one of the marrying partners, are over 18 and permanent residents of the UK, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man.

When should we take out wedding insurance?
You can take out wedding insurance as soon as you make any bookings or pay any deposits towards your wedding. Insurance can be taken out up to 2 years prior to the wedding or up to 10 days before the big day.

Does the wedding venue need to be booked before I take out wedding insurance?
Although you must provide the dates for the ceremony/reception when you take out the policy, if you do not know the venue/address you can still purchase the insurance policy. However, you must inform us of the venue/address as soon as it has been booked to ensure your policy is kept up to date.

I have already paid a deposit for my wedding. If I now take out your wedding policy, will this deposit be covered?
Yes, we cover costs for deposits paid before the policy starts. However, the policy will not cover any claims for bankruptcy, liquidation or failure to meet contractual obligations of any supplier that occur either before the policy start date/time or within the first 14 days of the policy start date/time.

What happens if we are let down by a supplier, but not because they’ve gone into financial failure?
The policy only provides cover in specified situations. Unfortunately, a supplier letting you down would not be covered under the policy.

Will my wedding be covered if it is in a marquee?
If you wish the marquee to be insured, you will need to select the Optional Benefit 'Marquee Cover'. This offers cover for marquees up to £75,000 and includes the items within the marquee such as staging, chairs, tables, lighting, flooring, toilets and ancillary equipment.

We are having a wedding with ceremonial swords, does your policy cover this?
If you wish the ceremonial swords to be insured, you will need to select the Optional Benefit 'Ceremonial Swords'. This offers cover for ceremonial swords up to the value of £20,000.

I hold a British passport and currently live overseas. I will be travelling back to the UK for my wedding, am I able to take out an insurance policy with you?
The policyholder and both the marrying partners must be a permanent resident living in the UK. The policyholder can be living in the UK on a visa. To be a permanent resident, the policyholder's main residence must be in the UK and they must not have been abroad for more than a total of 6 months in the last year.

We are planning to hold the ceremony and reception on different days, will this be covered by your policy?
Yes, the policy can cover ceremony and receptions held up to 56 days apart.

We are having two ceremonies/two receptions, will this be covered by your policy?
Yes, the policy can cover up to two ceremonies and two receptions.

Does the wedding insurance policy also include cover for my honeymoon?
No, you will need to purchase a separate travel insurance policy.

Would your policy cover a situation in which my partner, a member of the armed forces, is posted overseas?
The cancellation and rearrangement section of the policy includes cover for the unforeseen posting overseas of a member of the UK armed forces or unavoidable and necessary duty for the Ambulance Service, Coastguard, Fire Brigade, Police or nursing personnel which prevents either partner from attending the wedding.

What should we do if we have to cancel our wedding due to a change of heart? Would we be covered?
If you decide to cancel your wedding due to a change of heart you should inform both your venue/reception and any suppliers. Please note that cancellation due to a change of heart is not covered under the policy.

Will I be covered if my wedding or reception is affected by Covid 19 or something similar?
Our wedding policies are designed to provide cover for the usual ups and downs of getting married, so we don't cover any claims where Covid 19 affects the wedding or reception.

What happens if we have to cancel or rearrange our wedding due to the illness or death of one of the wedding party members, but this was caused by an illness that was present before the policy start date?
Unfortunately, this situation is not covered under the policy. If a member of your wedding party has a pre-existing condition that leads to death, injury, or illness, and it makes continuing with the wedding impossible, the policy won't cover it.

Will gifts of money and vouchers be covered under the Wedding Gifts section on the policy?
Unfortunately, we do not cover gifts of money or cheques, however, we do cover vouchers and tickets to a separate, smaller, limit.

Will I need to pay an excess?
There is no excess to pay for Cancellation and Curtailment or Rearrangement. You will need to pay £250 excess for Public Liability claims and £50 excess for all other Standard Benefits.

If you choose to purchase the Marquee Cover, Ceremonial Swords, Extended Public Liability or Public Liability for Guests as Optional Benefits, you will need to pay £250 excess.

There is no excess to pay on the Extended Cancellation Cover Optional Benefit (only available on the Diamond level of cover).

  • Extended Cancellation Cover

Cover may also be extended to guests by choosing the Public Liability for Guests Optional Benefit, with choices of £1 million, £3 million or £5 million.
